Today, I did it. I finally asked the barista out. Well, sorta. I woke up in my hotel room this morning still thinking about what I’m going to do about this crush of mine. So, over the $15 bowl hotel cafe oatmeal, otherwise known as “the healthy start” on the menu, I made the decision to send him the following facebook message. I figure I really have nothing to lose, other than embarrassing the hell out of myself. Will I ever be able to show my face in the coffee shop again?
“Hey [insert the barista’s real name here], hope all is well. I just wanted to drop you a line to let you know that I’d still like to photograph you for my faces project. I’ve just been busy with my day job lately. But I haven’t forgot about you. I’d love to have you be a part of it if you’re still interested.
Also (deep breath… here goes…lol) I’d like to ask you out (as in on a date). Maybe I can take you to dinner, or have you over and cook for you. I guess what I’m trying to say is, I find you quite attractive and I enjoy your charming personality. I’d really like to get to know you better. I hope this isn’t weird asking via private message on FB. I’m a bit shy, and I thought it might be kinda awkward asking you while you’re at work. Anyways, let me know. Just be easy when you shoot me down…lol.”
In retrospect, I wonder if asking a guy out over Facebook comes across as immature and “school-girl-crush-ish.” I’m just not very good at this dating thing.
